Our Hydrobotics team has made significant progress in configuring the electrical components that will be used in the AUV from making the calculations for the battery power required for operation to other electrical parts we may need.
Battery Calculations:
For this AUV the most significant power usage will be from the four thrusters being used along with their electronic speed controller (ESC).
All electrical components were considered in the power calculations which led to the decision of choosing a battery with 14.8V and 22 amp hours.
Two of the batteries will be used with the expectation that with each charge they will last at least 25 minutes before needing a recharge/replacement.
We also came to the conclusion of using the PM07 power module by Holybro to use as the power distribution board for the AUV, which is expected to work nicely with the Pixhawk that is being used since it is also a Holybro product. That aside we are currently determining the best power rail to be used for the AUV as well.
